The new commercial gateway of Fort McMurray is taking shape.

Just three kilometres south of the townsite of Fort McMurray along Highway 63 lies an unparalleled land opportunity for businesses who provide services to the Athabaska oil sands and one of the fastest growing urban markets in the world.

The property is within the Urban Service Area of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB), and currently has an approved Outline Plan and subdivision approvals in place. Construction of roads and the first lots began in 2014, and Phase 2 of development will be underway in 2016/17.

Background

Fort McMurray has an established reputation as the great northern land of opportunity, but what some people do not know is that the regional economy continues to endure a painful scarcity of developable commercial/ industrial land.

To help unburden the regional economy, Alberta Infrastructure was tasked in 2011 with selling nearly 1,000 acres of Crown Land, which has become Prairie Creek Business Park.

With the successful acquisition of the land in December of 2011, Pacific Investments & Development Ltd. will now play a major role in the effort to provide developable land that is critical to the continued commercial growth of the community, as well as for businesses who provide services to oil sands producers and the residents of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
